Laminate
Laminate is the work horse of Kitchen tops, the vast array of colours and textures available today combined with the inexpensive price tag makes laminate a popular choice amongst customers.
The Matt and Crystal finishes tend to be far harder wearing than the more fragile gloss finishes, as scratches and swirl marks are more obvious with gloss tops.
Like the tops supplied by Axiom and Duropal, laminate tops these days tend to be very hard wearing and durable and are a good option for those looking at a cost effective way of installing tops in their own and rental properties as they require no maintenance once installed.
Advantages:
Most cost effective type of work surface
Massive choice of colours and finishes
Can be installed on site
No maintenance once installed
Durable
Colour matching is very good between tops
Good stain resistance
Disadvantages:
Not as heat resistant as granite or quartz
Limited design options as curves are not easily / neatly achieved
Cannot be repaired if damaged
Cannot use Undermount or butler sinks with this type of top
